Moon Tae-il has had his prison sentence of three and a half years upheld by the Supreme Court for special quasi-rape charges. The Supreme Court’s First Division confirmed the original ruling against Tae-il and his two accomplices, dismissing their final appeal.
The court also ordered Tae-il and his co-defendants to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and imposed a five-year ban on employment at organizations related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities.
Tae-il was put on trial in June last year for allegedly sexually assaulting a drunk Chinese woman with two accomplices. In July, the first trial sentenced all three to three and a half years in prison, citing the severity of the crime and the victim’s inability to protest. The Seoul High Court also rejected their appeal in October, upholding the initial ruling.
Following the accusations, Tae-il’s former agency, SM Entertainment, announced the termination of his exclusive contract, stating: “Tae-il is under prosecution investigation for a criminal complaint case. We have decided to terminate the exclusive contract in agreement with him, as we could no longer continue our trust.”
With the Supreme Court’s decision, Tae-il’s sentence is now final, marking the end of the legal proceedings in the case.
