The five-member act, consisting of MARTIN, JAMES, JUHOON, SEONGHYEON and KEONHO, said the single represents more than a new release. It marks the culmination of a creative partnership with hip-hop veteran Juicy J that began before the group’s official debut, while signaling the next phase of their artistic direction.
Rather than being a one-off feature, “MOTION” grew from early songwriting sessions between CORTIS and the Academy Award-winning rapper. According to the group, Juicy J was impressed by the members’ appreciation for his work, with their shared admiration for hip-hop eventually developing into a full creative collaboration.
The single draws heavily from the sounds of 1990s Southern hip-hop, particularly the Memphis scene that helped define Juicy J’s career as a member of Three 6 Mafia. CORTIS rework those influences with modern production, looping beats and contemporary rap flows, aiming to honor the genre’s legacy while presenting their own identity.
The collaboration holds personal significance for member MARTIN, who cited Juicy J and Three 6 Mafia as longtime musical influences. Working directly with one of the artists who shaped his appreciation for Memphis hip-hop marks a major milestone in his career.
Continuing the group’s hands-on creative approach, the members participated in both the songwriting and composition of the track. MARTIN and JUHOON also co-wrote the second verse, reinforcing CORTIS’ commitment to developing their own music.
The title “MOTION” reflects the group’s forward momentum as they prepare to perform at Lollapalooza Chicago before embarking on the 2026 CORTIS Tour in North America, their first headlining trek across the region.
With the new single, CORTIS aim to bridge hip-hop’s past and present while introducing their evolving sound to a wider global audience at a pivotal moment in their career.
